How are your experiences with the BED placed not directly on the shield but in its own dedicated spot in the box?

Airic

Well the box is easy to get! ;-) Another one is in the mail as we speak.

As you know the Big Easy Driver does not fit directly on the shield. And as I started this project I was not sure if the 750mA the Easy Driver v4.4 could deliver was enough for vertical lifts of the rig. So I opted for the BED since it can handle close to 2A with adequate cooling. So that's why I've made it this way.
But after a lot of testing, and adjusting the BED to about 900mA, it seems I could do quite well with the V4.4 too. As long as I keep the MAX SPEED above about 150ms it lifts vertical easily.
This is of course also due to the 5.18:1 planetary gear box on the stepper motor.
By the way: I'm using a 20 tooth HTD3 belt pulley and a 6mm wide HTD3 belt with a length corresponding to the 1,5m GlideTrack. I've made two small brackets to mount and keep the belt tight on each end of the track.

I'll dismantle the mechanics andtake some pictures to clearify.

BA ;-)

Thank you! ;-)
Hopefully it will be even better and have a little more "professional" look and feel over it after I re-do the front panel..Big Grin

Belt drive up now!

Top side view first. This is the way it is mounted on the carriage

Very rude bracket it is! Needs to be redesigned to look a little smarter. But I'm out of 50x50x5 alu profile for the time being....

Bottoms up then ;-)

And the belt tension brackets; one on each side, mirrored

And... as a digression... the V3 of the Plexiglas box I was plundering with before I got the alu box. hehe.

Moisture collector shell I'd rather call it!Tongue

... ok, I will check if this is better than http://www.maedler.de where I ordered my stuff. Shipping is quite expensive there and the metal-belt-pulleys are not pre-drilled (5mm). Other from that is Mädler pretty cool!
